Shenzhen DaFen International Art City

The project is located in Dafen Village, Buji Town, Longgang District, Shenzhen. With the rapid development of Shenzhen, Dafen Village has become "the first village of Chinese oil painting" and a national cultural industry base through the introduction of oil painting industry. However, as an atypical case of the development of urban villages in Shenzhen, Dafen has escaped the dilemma of upgrading and transformation of urban villages in a certain period of time, but it can not fundamentally solve the sustainable development of urban renewal in the future.


Based on this background, Chen Keshi, Professor of Peking University and chief designer of Zhongying City, as a consultant of Longgang District government, accepted the entrustment in January 2015 to give advice and suggestions on the future industrial development of Longgang Dafen and conduct detailed urban design research on the overall urban spatial development of Dafen Village.


Professor Chen Keshi proposed that Dafen's future development should be from an international perspective, learn from the south bank art community in London - the most artistic urban cultural industry area in the world, learn from its industrial function, material space and other aspects of construction, and build Dafen into China's "south bank art community in London", that is, Dafen international art community.


The results show the overall idea of the design. Based on the improvement of the comprehensive development planning of the original area, it aims to build four functional zones of "Beicun Dafen Oil Painting Village, Nanshe creative culture community, West Street pluralistic commercial block and Dongchang loft Creative Park". Through the improvement and transformation of the surrounding traffic, environment and urban villages, it makes full use of the regional advantages to create a collection of art industry, commerce, cultural creativity, office The comprehensive urban development zone with the functions of residence, hotel and entertainment supporting facilities will eventually form a diversified, multi format and artistic atmosphere urban comprehensive community led by the art industry, which will become a brand-new city card of Longgang District in the future, an advanced model of urban renewal in Shenzhen, and one of Longgang's major contributions to Shenzhen's becoming a world-class city.


Dafen international art community is an urban area with Pan art and culture industry as the core, multiple urban functional attributes and rich artistic space atmosphere. Through the target path of two phases of development, it is planned to gradually realize the construction and development of Dafen international art community in the next 15-20 years. Among them, the core area of art community started in the near and medium term, combined with the construction of Shenzhen Urban Renewal unit, seeks the smooth progress of urban transformation and upgrading. At the same time, the significance of the transformation of the core area can play a demonstration role and promote the urban renewal of a larger area in the future.
