At the invitation of the United Nations Environment Programme, Professor Chen Keshi, vice president of the school of urban planning and design of Peking University, delivered a keynote speech on "creating a better future for the city" at the United Nations headquarters in New York on April 8. The UN Habitat global Habitat Environment Forum held a forum with the theme of building a low-carbon city and developing a green economy at the United Nations headquarters in New York from April 7 to 8. Dr. awani bennan, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and director general of the United Nations Pavilion of the World Expo, Daniel hornwig, urban consultant of the world bank, alab hobala, Minister of the United Nations Environment Programme, Adam fried, representative of the mayor of Bloomberg, New York, Roger Pratt, vice president of the United States Green Building Commission, Richard bloom, mayor of Santa Monica, United States, head of the global city index Professor Patricia McCartney of the University of Toronto, Ms. pan goldsmith Jones, mayor of Vancouver, Canada, Bob Dixon, mayor of collinsburg, Kansas, USA, emmad dia, chairman of the post disaster reconstruction Commission of Iraq, Ralph vancheft of the United Nations Department of economic and social affairs, John Tobin, chairman of the United States Climate Research Institute and other guests spoke at the forum. Former UN under secretary general Anwar Chowdhury chaired the forum.
At the dinner hosted by the United Nations headquarters on April 7, Dr. Noel brown, President of the United Nations friendship Council, presented the "global best example award for post disaster reconstruction planning and design" to Professor Chen Keshi and the China urban design and research center of Peking University on behalf of the forum, in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by the planning and design scheme of Shuimo town in Wenchuan new town presided over by Professor Chen in green city and cultural rejuvenation. On behalf of UN Habitat, Dr. Brown inspected the post disaster reconstruction of Wenchuan in May 2011 and highly praised the planning and construction of Shuimo town in Wenchuan new town. In his speech, he said that Shuimo town should be the best example of planning and design for global post disaster reconstruction.
