On March 10, 2015, at the invitation of Zhuhai municipal government, the chief designer of CR design institute, Professor Chen Keshi, accompanied by the leaders of Zhuhai urban construction group and Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of culture and sports, the owner of Zhuhai opera house project, visited the construction site of Zhuhai Opera House, met with long Guangyan, vice mayor of Zhuhai City, and had in-depth exchanges on issues such as the final achievement of the original artistic effect of the design scheme.
 


From 2008 to now, Zhuhai opera house has experienced international bidding, scheme design and construction preparation. Up to now, its appearance has initially appeared, which has condensed the efforts of designers and Zhuhai. Many citizens go to shoot records every day, and the design circles in Hong Kong and Macao are also very concerned about the results of this project.


"Moon Scallop" is the first maritime opera house in China designed by Professor Chen Keshi of CR design institute. It is also another maritime opera house after Sydney Opera House. In 2009, Zhuhai Opera House solicited architectural design schemes from Zhuhai municipal government all over the world, which attracted bids from more than 30 famous design institutions from the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Switzerland and other countries, as well as domestic top design masters, including designers of Beijing National Grand Theatre and the "bird's nest" of the National Stadium. The "Moon Scallop" scheme proposed by Professor Chen Keshi and the design team stood out and finally won.


As the first theater built on an island in China, Zhuhai Grand Theater has completed 70% of the investment. At present, the curtain wall installation of the small shell is under construction. The next step will enter the stage of steel structure coating and overall building lighting installation of the large shell. The first performance is expected to be held on New Year's day, 2016.


The Zhuhai Grand Theater project covers an area of 57680 square meters, with a construction area of 59000 square meters, and the estimated investment is about 1.7 billion yuan. The Grand Theater includes 1550 grand theaters and 550 multi-functional small theaters. The large and small theaters are in the shape of sun and moon, also known as "big shell" and "small shell". The maximum height of the building is 90 meters.


The "Moon Scallop" proposed by Professor Chen Keshi and the design team takes the Moon Scallop growing in the Pearl River Estuary as the motif, adopts the image artistic modeling, skillfully combines the function and spatial image of the opera house, and uses the latest LED technology to interact the performances inside and outside the Opera House, creating a new concept of mass opera house, which embodies the regionality, artistry and originality in architectural design.


During the on-site investigation, Professor Chen Keshi, as the original chief designer of the architectural scheme of the opera house, was reiterated to be responsible for the artistic effect of the opera house according to the relevant documents. The professor has the right and responsibility to require the subsequent construction drawing production unit and construction unit to implement the original artistic effect of the opera house, and shall not change it at will. Professor Chen Keshi suggested that the engineering department organize an in-depth demonstration meeting of the construction technology scheme in April this year, including construction drawings, landscape design, lighting, interior decoration design and other parties. He also expressed his willingness to participate in the discussion to further ensure that the final artistic effect of the opera house can achieve the expected goal of the scheme. According to the inspection on that day, Professor Chen Keshi believes that the current landscape design scheme is too fancy and commercialized, which will damage the pure and elegant artistic effect of the original design.


During the meeting, vice mayor long thanked Professor Chen Keshi for his contribution to Zhuhai Public Art for many times, and expressed the hope that Professor Chen Keshi would further elaborate on the concept of "Pearl River Estuary Bay area economy" in his speech at the study and expansion conference of the central group of Shenzhen Municipal Party committee, and suggested that Professor Chen Keshi should come to Zhuhai central group to give a lecture, The theme is that Professor Chen Keshi analyzes the development experience of cities at home and abroad and gives suggestions and opinions on the research direction of Zhuhai.
